It’s Time for Spring Maintenance!

Welcome to spring! It just might be the most beautiful time of the year. But you’re going to enjoy it more if you know you’re ready for the summer heat, which can hit before you quite expect it to. How can you be sure you’re prepared? One of the most important things you can do is get spring maintenance for your HVAC system. Here’s why.

A Winter’s Disuse

During the winter, when your air conditioner sits unused for months, problems can accumulate. Anything from ordinary dust to a mouse nest to a refrigerant leak can occur during those months, and you don’t want to find out that you have a major problem just when you suddenly need your air conditioner the most!

In our area, we pay quite enough to keep our homes cool. We don’t need to be spending any extra on our electric bills just because our air conditioners have lost efficiency! Between dust accumulation and lubricant wearing away, there will be a lot more friction than there was a year ago, and friction means the system will have to strain harder just to get the same amount done. Maintenance will get your efficiency back.

Reduced Repair Needs

It’s an almost unbelievable statistic, but it’s true: having maintenance done annually can reduce the need for repairs by 85%. This is partly because cleaning and lubrication will reduce all that wear and tear. It’s also because your maintenance technician will catch small problems before they can get any worse. If, during maintenance, the technician tightens a screw, it could prevent that screw from flying loose later and damaging other components!

Prolonged System Life Expectancy

By avoiding all that wear and tear and system strain, and by catching little issues before they become serious problems, maintenance will keep your air conditioner running for longer. In fact, total lack of maintenance can cut your AC unit’s life expectancy in half! You don’t want to replace such a costly system twice as often. It would be much more sensible to get HVAC maintenance in West Monroe, LA.

Heat Pumps Need Maintenance, Too

In so many ways, heat pumps are just like air conditioners, and they need the same maintenance, with a couple of additional concerns to keep in mind.

  • Frequency: Your heat pump will need maintenance twice a year, in the spring to recover from the winter’s heating and get ready for summer, and in the fall to recover from the summer’s cooling and get ready for winter.
  • Reversing: The one component that makes a heat pump truly different from an air conditioner is the reversing valve. This is the piece that allows it to switch from one mode to another. It’s critical to keep this in good condition so your heat pump won’t get stuck in one mode.
